According to Shree Sudha Murthy, Chairman of Infosys Foundation - 85% of fresh engineering graduates are not immediately employable.
India has been an epitome of engineering right from ancient times. The quality of education was at its pinnacle for almost 2000 years.
But, the current trends of Education and practical exposures in India are not very clear. If you don’t understand the meaning, please go through Shree Sudha Murthy’s comment once again.
This is something that makes us a little conscious about ourselves, right?
In this growing world, working and earning is a necessity rather than a luxury. Everyone is picking engineering as a degree to earn and live peacefully. That being said – who wouldn’t want to make use of their education and earn a comfortable living? Since you’re here, it’s definitely not you!
Coming to those who say – “The market does not have any jobs”, you are absolutely wrong!
If you are equipped with the right set of technologies and have the positive mindset to achieve and tackle the competition. Do trust us: The world is all yours!
Let me help you with how to get yourself prepared to bag a software job in these competitive times. Securing a job is easy. Just follow the 3 step approach: Learn – Interact – Excel!
a) Let us start with ‘Learn’
This implies learning the basics, as basics are the building blocks to our good coding skills. Make sure to have a planned schedule and keep the following points in mind:
· Start with C Language Theory
· Proceed with Data Structures , Java , Python and Sql Theories.
· Choose one Language and start practicing coding questions.
· Go through the Learnt languages MCQ questions and practice them.
· Go through your dream company placement papers and practice them.
· Browse the net for the Learnt Languages TR Questions and have a look.
b) Moving on to ‘Interact’. Interacting is an important part as this will give you a chance to improve your skills as well as to learn new concepts, ideas and much more from the skilled people.
You can increase your interaction with skilled students by doing the following:
· Participate in Coding competitions.
· Participate in Coding + Project Hackathons.
· Participate in Mock Tests, Interviews.
· Participate in Communication competitions.
There are lots of opportunities available. Just keep exploring the internet and make the best use of it.
c) Last, but not the least ‘Excel’. If Learn and Interact phases are implemented perfectly – Excellence would be the next phase to taste and enjoy.
But, do remember :
· You would definitely face failures at the beginning. Don’t take a step back – Keep Pushing forward.
· Don’t by heart the concepts. Do understand them. If you have trouble doing this, try to remember the concept by linking it to real world examples near you. This will help in a better understanding for you.
Learning and practicing basics might help you in securing a job but they are not enough to get a good package.
Let us now dive into the ‘Hacks to Secure a high package jobs with Tier-1 MNC Companies’.
Having an overview of basic languages will help you to manage jobs with low to medium packages, but – to secure your dream packages: you are expected to perfect not only basic languages but also must have project building and development experience inculcating strong teamwork, ethic and morals.
That being said – you can follow some of these to put yourself in the right path:
· Choose just 1 Coding language of your choice and perfect it
· Post completion of Basic Languages – Choose 1 Advanced Technology and start learning it.
Ex – Salesforce, Data Science, Full Stack, AI & ML etc.
Doing so would add weight to your resume and will help you out to be able to stand out during placement drives.
· Have a round the clock search on the internet to find Genuine Software Engineering Internships.
Internships give you the best exposure to live projects and their implementation methodologies.
· Last but not least – Try to identify an issue in our world and try to develop a solution for it using software technologies.
Shushh ..! A quick secret.! Lots of companies in our world have started in the same way. i.e – the base of those companies was a basic solution for a basic problem
· Most importantly – Don’t procrastinate your targets and make sure to complete them on time!
Since we have looked into the major coding skills and ways to develop them, let us move to the communication skills. These are mostly ignored by our fresh graduates, but what they don’t realize is that these play a very important role too!
Just Mastering Coding skills is not enough in this competing world. We need to have a good grip in communication too.
What would be the use? If you are not able to express/communicate your knowledge effectively.
One must have adequate, if not professional communication skills both in verbal and physical manner.
Currently a majority of us are lacking in communication skills and there are lots of supporting reasons for it but one can overcome this by implementing solutions which are not that hard.
All you have to do – is to do simple things like: watch a movie, greet your neighbors, learn at least 5 new words everyday, etc.
The blog might not be a full guide – but it does decently give you a start to your path.
Do remember – Your future is in your hands.
